Some UA update ran and now I don't have any AAX plugins on my system. UA Connect tells me they are installed, but Pro Tools doesn't see them and more importantly, they are not in the folder where they are supposed to be (on Windows 11). I "removed" a couple and reinstalled them and then they actually installed so I thought ok, pain in the ass, but I'll do it for the rest. Unfortunately they are not showing up (even though UA connect is again saying they are installed). My UAD-2 plugins are fine and all the rest of my plugins are fine. And it's not iLok - the actual plugin files are not installed (except for the 3 that worked for some reason). WTF?
anyone else see anything like this?

UAConnect = POS Buggy, shitty piece of spyware that constantly needs to call back to UA's servers to ask for permission to use the plugins (or Luna) you purchased

UA connect is only about uadx plugs.
Any other usd2 is downloaded from ua site without ua connect required.
My ua connect is working fine but I only have uadx plugs.

Well, that’s not now and you can put authorizations on your ilok and turn UAC off: just use it for updates.

UA won't let you take that same approach with UAC if you're using Luna, and I'm still using Luna, at least for now anyway. If/when I ultimately move 100% away from Luna, the plan would be to just use UAC for plugin updates, and then shut it down or even delete it in the meantime. But until then, UAC has to be open.

That’s too bad. I never embraced Luna because I never liked the vulnerability of being too deep in the ua world.
Hopefully, you pick a new daw soon !

UA Connect is horrible and the reason I haven't bought any UAD native plugins. I want the UAD Ruby Vox sim but refuse to install UA Connect again. It's Waves Central bad.

I've considered selling all of my UAD plugins along with the Apollos, but I would get nothing for them, and there are some UADx and UAD-2 DSP plugins that I do really like. So I'll probably continue to have to use UAC here and there, even after I get off Luna. But I want my use of UAC to eventually become rare, instead of everyday. And I'll have to pick up a cheap satellite for my DSP plugins. Ugh...

Make a list of the ua plugs you want to use, confirm which are uadx and what you could substitute with other plugs from other companys?

btw, you cannot download the current version of UAD2 updates anymore without using UA Connect. You can get N-1 at the UA archive (at least for now) -- help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/215267203-UAD-Software-ArchivesI have an idea of what may have happened to my UADx plugins. I need to turn off the auto-update or whatever the f** it's called. I got online to authorize a different plugin (Magic 7, or maybe Glow) and the UA monster popped up it's head and started an update. Then it showed updates for every plugin so I decided to let it run in the background while I worked some other stuff where I was not using any UADx plugins. My guess is that while Pro Tools is open, it will happily delete your old plugin but will not install the new plugin. I think this is why I got 3 plugins installed today -- but then I decided to go back working on a mix (that I was doing and realized I had no UADx plugins anymore...) and I think as soon as PT opened, nothing got updated. So back to the drawing board. This really sucks though when you actually have work to do. Another nail in the coffin for UA (and me) I'm afraid. I certainly will not be purchasing anymore from them again.

it started with 11.4 if I remember correctly (because I haven't updated since). I had to download the huge update in my house, then find where it hides it and then move it onto a USB stick and take it to the studio rather than wait for it to download. Also, it's a flaky download and sometimes it would quit even on a "good" internet connection. Very frustrating that they put so much into this stupid app and took away the ability to do it in a reliable fashion.

and I did confirm that the UA plugin updates will not run correctly if Pro Tools is open. UA Connect no longer has a setting to disable auto-update. It will update whenever it wants (or whenever it gets connected to the net in my case since I am usually disconnected from the internet). But you do have to start the updates for the individual plugins (or update all), so that was my mistake. I should have waited until I was done working and then left the system on to install all of the updates. That is basically what I am doing tonight (and that also means that I cannot work on what I wanted to work on until these updates complete and my system is no longer f**cked because of it. Unfortunately UA Connect has turned what was a really good product into a consumer quality toy.

Which bums me out to be saying, because then we're also having this other conversation at the same exact time: realgearonline.com/thread/18110/old-2192-videoTHAT is the UA I remember, and it's the UA that I wish still existed. But what're you gonna do? Things change.

UA Connect is malware, plain and simple. Have y'all read the fine print?
"By purchasing a UAD plugin, you implicitly agree that you will be punished for being a customer.
As a free bonus, any complaints will be met with the verbal abuse of Drew@UA. We know you like it, and will come back for more."

I don’t go to ua forum anymore, but thought it ironic, that it implemented that sort of don’t beat up Drew rule. I stopped participating there as I found his comments patronizing about my concerns about UA’s complete about face on pricing, sweetheart pricing deal to only lapsing subscribers an insult to its heavily invested clients: he brings it on himself.

How do I stop UA Connect “phoning home” every time I launch a Spark plugin - it’s worse than ET. Is it because I’m using ilok machine auth instead of my physical ilok key? Thanks

Yes, you can move authorizations to your ilok, then you don’t need ua connect on: just turn it on to update.
I think you need to go into ilok manager, deactivate each authority and reactivate and select ilok dongle , bit tedious.

right, mine is authenticated to my physical iLok, so as long as I am not connected, it usually works fine. It's when I have to connect for some other reason (non UA) and the stupid UA connect app will connect anyway (I suppose I could implement a firewall rule to block it specifically and only turn it on when I want to allow them), then it sometimes leaves it in a state where it needs to re-authenticate (which is dumb).
And have you noticed that the UADforum, even though it is supposedly not an official UA forum, has posts telling you NOT to post technical issues (and instead go to UA tech support - which as we know is a chat bot). WTF? I mean, the whole reason for a site like that to exist is that people would post questions or issues they were seeing and the community would help them out. This was free support (or at least kept some low hanging fruit from reaching the support desk) and UA is totally missing the point. Instead, let's station at troll a the bridge. (btw, 11 meters per second)

Although your post may be a bit tongue-in-cheek, it is spot on. It is Malware. I went through this yesterday with file corruption from a recent UAD update for the OX Box. I am UAD-free sans my physical OX box; it is a modern golden-era UAD product and I need it's physical function. I had never updated the OX Box. The OX 'update file' installed every known UAD plugin file they have; they were hidden in the update. It corrupted files in my C drive. I had to use Power Shell to repair the drive, delete folders in 4 locations with 100s of UAD files, and use CC cleaner to repair the registry. That update cost me 4 hours of my day.
What I don't understand about UAD users at this point in time is why they continue to support the company. - Money and time invested for a 'sometimes great, usually average, often mediocre' product, that's it. That's just not enough. The level of disconnect between the user and the company is massive. UA doesn't like its customers, and customers don't like UA. It's akin to a married couple who are genuinely unhappy together, who honestly don't like each other's company but who insist on staying together in discord 'for the benefit of the children.' It's a decision that guarantees everyone in the family suffers.
