In all my years of playing, I have never tried these…thought what would likely be a marginal increase in tone wouldn’t justify the price difference. I was wrong! Slapped these on my J45 today and they are wonderful, sound broken in right off the bat (tiny bit of new string zing, not much), the tone of them is incredibly balanced and wonderfully warm but still with clarity. I was always fighting the B string poking out too much sonically with this guitar, these strings have resolved that. The most amazing thing I noticed is the compression they impart when strumming loud….everything seems balanced and it tames the beast somewhat (‘42 reissue J45…it can be a cannon). While I may not want the reduction in volume sitting around a campfire with friends, I am in the studio far more and they are perfect to get a hard strummed sound without the excessive volume. I am smitten…yes they hurt the wallet but the cost imho is well worth it.
PS. On this guitar I’ve tried DR Sunbeams, Rares, D’addario EJ17’s, Martin (pretty much all), Gibson, Newtones and maybe some others I can’t recall.
