I'm thinking that there's some gear sources that really need to have a status update:
Has anybody been doing any business with AMI since Oliver Archut passed? I was giving some serious thought to his C-12 kits just before he died, since then I've kind of shelved the idea - might be worth a new look if they're back up and running. I have to admit that out of respect I feel a little reluctant to ask.
Also - What's the deal with Drip these days? Have they pretty much bailed out of the market or was that an ugly GS rumor? If you look at the site the only thing it appears they're still producing would be the boards for the Fairchild 670 clone - I think that build might be just a tad over my head! I'd love to do a LA2A or Pultec though.

Only took a couple weeks from order to arrival.

It seems like they just don't do much website updating. Also, I asked about the LA2A (Opto 5) and they aren't doing it anymore. "The Opto5s are discontinued - I have a couple of the boards, but we don't make the opto couplers any more - too time consuming, and they can't be obtained anywhere else."

Drip is still in business, I received the pcb for my STA level yesterday! Send an email to Marie sales@dripelectronics.com They are pretty bad at communication but once your name is on the list they let you know when they are going to do a run.

Interested in doing a drip pultec. I was planning on doing Colin's Audio Maintenance kit, but it looks like that kit is no longer available. Although $1200 bucks for a completed EZP1a might still be cheaper than building a drip. I wonder if anyone has compared the two. If I recall, the EZP1a is less of a direct copy.

Save some cash and buy the stereo Summit unit. Not a clone, but does a solid job.

I might try the Analog Allstars one too: www.diyrecordingequipment.com/projects/eqp1s-5-500-series-pultec-eq/

Summit! No tubes in the analog all stars. Assuming you have the Summit -- do you keep it on the 2 buss for mixing?

Yep, I've read a bunch of his posts about them. On the one hand, I want a ridiculous 3u mono pultec just for the visual impact.... and I had been planning on going that route. But now that so much highly quality (and DIY) stuff is available in 500 series, it's really making me consider the more space friendly options. Of course, the drip pultec has 3 or so tubes plus those giant sowter transformers........ so it's not just the vintage aesthetics you'd be losing by going with 500 series variants. The summit seems like an attractive option though (especially used). I was trying to find inside pics of the summit, and this site turned up... you'll have to translate it: www.neemismastering.fr/2012/04/comparatif-degaliseurs/

I have some 500 series Pultecs I like a lot as well. The Analog Allstars eq's are the best of the 500 options. They aren't near as cool as the Drips however. I do love having them in my travel rack when I don't want to haul 6 Spaces around for 2 channels of Pultec eq. If I had to keep one or the other, it would easily be the Drip Pultec.
My 2 cents

My 2 cents Thanks for chiming in! Good to hear a direct comparison of the two. Ultimately, I'll probably want both, and maybe still a summit for subtle 2buss duties.... might take a while for all that though. Have you tried the JLM PEQ500s? I've seen a lot of good reports, but I'm hoping he'll release as DIY kits sooner or later.
