not the guy from Brooklyn... But I digress. Meet Joel Hamilton - he's a longtime friend and probably the second best guitarist on this board (Of course, donr is always No.1) Anyway, I've invited Joel to be a moderator in the Guitar Forum and share his knowledge and expertise. Berklee CoM, Marine Corp Band, touring, etc...just a phenomenal player, teacher and overall musician (although not a particularly good holder-of-Jagermeister shots). If you have any questions that have to do with guitars - all kinds (He just bought a Santa Cruz 1934 D...bastard) - Joel's your guy...Oh, and he has his law degree too...so, personal injury, divorce and music business legal questions are encouraged. joelhamiltonHere's a little vid of Joel playing in some juke-joint in MS...

Man thats a fantastic introduction. I really didn't prepare a speech. But seriously, I am really happy to be here. I am still kicking myself for not joining when John first asked me to. This is a great site and I hope I can be of some use to everybody.

First guitar question for you. PRS!! Why has the love for a good CE22 and the CE24 fallen off the radar. I sold all my Fenders/Gibsons after playing one of these for modern R&B sound. I have been through a lot of Fender and Gibsons. Just a little background I did miss out on the 60's, 70's and 80's era of music.

I love PRS guitars. I have a Custom 24 that I got for cheap (because it is ugly) and after lowering the pickups a little it quickly became my favorite electric.
Why they have fallen from popularity is a tough question. I have a few speculations, but obviously this is all conjecture. Some may be his change to a production model. He started importing guitars as well. The larger production makes his guitars less exclusive.
Another idea is the large number of professionals who collect them. Silly, but do real players resent the wealthy collectors who swear by them?
Lastly is the swing to vintage that has slowly taken place over the last decade. Notice how many new guitars are reliced that never even existed long enough ago that they could be that worn?
I don't know if any of these ideas are right, and I certainly love my PRS. At any rate it makes me feel special since I don't see a lot of them these days at gigs

I intensely dislike PRS guitars as they seem to me to have no inherent personality of their own. I'll gladly work around the quirks of my strats and Teles for their unique personality they bring to the table.
I understand that they are wonderfully playable but every guitarist I know who has switched to PRS guitars I've preferred their sound on their old instruments...

This just in: Scott Stapp assassinated Paul Reed Smith's reputation.
My PRS through an RC Boost and a Peavey Delta Blues had character. I will try to find video to back that statement up. One of my favorite rigs of all time.

I wasn't meaning to challenge you....I'm just saying that for me they leave me flat...
The guitarists that come to mind that I occasionally listen to that use them are Lifeson, Santana, DiMeola and McLaughlin....I prefer their sound on their old axes.....be they 335's, Les Paul's, Yamahas, Strats, etc.
But what do I know....if it works for you, rock on!

Kevin I'm not arguing either. I agree that it's rare. Heck I was surprised.
I lowered the pickups because I'm a huge fan of low gain buckers: burst, Fralin Unbuckers etc.
Unbalanced coils, no wax, low gain: yummy overtones. Lowering pickups makes them less hot because they are farther away. Not better than getting truly awesome pickups but much more affordable!
