Hey, Everyone!
You might be interested in this video analysis of the latest Taylor Swift release: "Style". It looks at the song structurally, melodically and lyrically, while also examining the accompanying video's imagery. Pretty cool. There is probably at least one little takeaway in there for anybody interested in the innards of pop hits. Love her or otherwise, Taylor is certainly one of the best at engaging the masses, for better or for worse.

Taylor is successful because she doesn't try to engage the masses. It's about having developed a personal relationship with her fans and not worrying about what anybody else thinks.

Because the song analysis was so rudimentary, I saw this more as a marketing vehicle. It made me wonder if this was put together by her marketing team. She is hoping to keep her career going as she migrates from a 13 year old buying audience to an adult one.

Her fans are just growing older with her. From what I understand, she already did her own marketing. The Beatles did the same thing via Brian Eppstein. People really over-think this stuff.

She has a creative less is more approach as well, standard structures with multiple instruments, so it ends up sounding bigger than it is because of all the layering.

From Sound On Sound, November 2014: Shake it OffHopefully everyone will be able to see the article. I'm with this guy in the SOS article. The giggle at :19 is genius...and I'm not joking. Current pop hits on the radio are filled with this kind of stuff and it helps bring productions to the next level. That said, this write up was difficult to read. It's like they just grabbed someone off the street, without any real knowledge, to write it.
