I'm not sure about his hip problems. 44 is definitely pretty young to get hip replacement surgery and that was 16 years ago. Both booze and smokes get credit for the oral cancer - although my guess is he probably consumed enough of either to get the job done. I remember Sammy Hagar saying in an interview a few years back that Eddie was still smoking even after they had removed a large chunk of his tongue.
