I'm watching what I very much hope is the last of the snow falling in the Boston/Providence area. As many of you know, we've been enduring the coldest snowiest snap ever recorded out this way. I'm on spring break from the school where I teach, and decided what the hell - might as well run with the metaphor.
Thanks for those that have offered advice as I've been setting up my home studio. I've finally got it up and running, and somehow managed to get what I think is a pretty good piano sound using a pair of Rode NT-5s (and an NT1-A and AT-4033 in the room). I'm an ex-guitarist so please excuse the mediocre guitar and bass playing - the playing I hear on this site is a bit intimidating.
Since convention here is to list OTB gear used I'll list it here.
Uhmmm.. None
Pretty much ran everything directly into the Focusrite Liquid, including the bass and guitar. Rode NT1-A on all vocals and an AT-4033 on the acoustic, which pretty much empties my locker. I'm hoping that Jcoutu1 and ben can help me out as I search for the right vocal mic. They live in my neck of the woods. (Ben needs to get better - I'm rooting for him).
2-Buss:"Adaptive Limiter" that comes stock with Logic Pro
Mix down on AKG K240s and a pair of BX5a M-Audio speakers so I'm guessing on the bottom end (pun not intended).
Looking for any and all comments and suggestions - especially on the production/mix side of things - but also interested in what you think of the write, performance, lyrics, etc.

Kick back; grab a guitar, make it up on the fly, well those were longer days. We didn’t know our own best friend, as we watched those last halcyon rays. They ducked out in the face of destiny below a sinking wall of anxious clouds.
Then there was that meteorologist I wanted to kiss, it was a wish, she must have missed, clicking on the map. Shoulda gone out to buy a shovel but instead believed in beauty so I took a nap, And as the first flakes flew I woke up (just in time) to put another log on the fire.
They said a lot of things back then about the way the world could be, (that) love was the answer - It could turn a thought implausible around to possibility. Yeah, the rappers were angry, but none of us here could ever ever see how hard the storm would hit.
Too much indecision; visibility down to zero stops the mission ..burning candles can never ever keep you warm. Everybody tellin me to let it go - sayin’ wait it out and it'll cover up with snow - Now it’s time to leave well enough alone and face the new norm - beautiful creatures throwing darts at the storm.
Yeah I was a dreamer- forgot to wake up - I’m afraid I’ve got no apology. Got caught up in the vortex, sending more text, with the very best technology. Staring hard at our screens - wanna know what it all means and yet the messages we glean point to a million different things.
and then..
Charity swings from one side to the other, we all sway with the forecast and believe her every time. Clarity's out so with temerity we take it in without the sinker, just the hook and line. We’re prisoners of circumstance - or do we have a second chance?
As the sky empties over us, we may learn
Not to hold things up or out, but breathe at every turn
I thought, If I could only let her know
Instead, I'll just let it snow.
