Publishers are in the business to do one thing: make money. They are basically money lenders that recoup whatever they lend and make money off the backs of the people that sign the egregious contracts. Unfortunately, it takes money to make money...and they have the money.

I should say "big" publishers. There are still good small companies out there. The problem is the big ones scorch the earth with their entrails.
