Yeah - it doesn't have that amp in the room feeling...and isn't as responsive and dynamic as the real thing.

I agree. If I want the true in the room amp feel, I'll just plug into an amp. But in instances where I want a controllable tone for a p.a. or for recording, the KPA is really nice because it removes a lot of variables and adds a lot of options tone wise. To me, it doesn't replace an amp. It replaces a whole chain of things. If someone is just wanting an amp, then they should stick to real amps, unless they're wanting a low volume solution. There are so many options for monitoring the KPA and they all sound somewhat different so it's a bit of a chase to find what works for each person.

It would be absolutely amazing if I could be satisfied tonally and feel-wise because low volume tracking is a huge plus for me right now. So far my brain doesn't quite buy it, but I need to do more direct comparisons to mic'ing my amps. I would really love for my brain to 'believe' the sound. I may buy the Britt vintage pack even though the KPA may be going back. Any other profiles I should try? I'm a classic rock junkie FYI. I can't turn the knob fast enough when one of those fizzy, metal profiles comes on. I go for classic tones. If I do ditch the Kemper I think my next move would be a Dr Z Mini Z.

Ragan, did you try the 13 free samples from the 3.0 firmware upgrade? I also just added a sample pack with 20 studio profiles culled from the packs that I sell. It's a better indication of what my commercial profiles sound like. The merged rigs from the 3.0 firmware rig pack are ok, but I still prefer the studio profiles (profiles with cabinet and mics in chain) better. You can get the studio sample pack by signing up for my mailing list. Let me know if you need any help with anything as I'm pretty familiar with the unit.

I think I'll probably pick up the modern pack first.

I just (I'm slow...) put together who I'm talking to here. Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated. So I did sign up for the mailing list and I was given a link for a sample pack but when I select "sort by author" I only show 11 M Britt profiles. And I'm actually not even sure what firmware I'm running. I just got the KPA yesterday and it's running whatever came on it? The link I got after signing up from the mailing list has 13 FT37 2.0, 65 Lowman 2, 67 Deluxe Verb 4, 72 Mars !, Belchy Bomb 50 2, Boggy Soul A 7, Boggy XTC Ch2 N1, Cal Texan 1 6, CTone OTS CLN 2, Custodian C+ 6 and Dumble ODS F8. Am I on the right track here? The ones I've been playing are the 65 Lowman and the 67 Deluxe Verb. Is the 20 profile pack you're referring to a free pack or one you sell? I'm open to buying something even if I end up returning the KPA because I really want to get to the bottom of whether or not this can be a tracking solution for me. Thanks.

Those are the studio profiles so you're on the right track. Those profiles are some of the actual profiles I sell. I just pulled 3-4 out of each pack as a sample set. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Ok, so I figured out my KPA came with OS 2.5.xxxx. Updating to 3 right now.

Packing up the Kemper. It's not for me. I can see how it would be a really useful tool in a lot of situations but I just can't quite get into it. I ordered a Mini Z head and Z 1x10 cab (w/ Ramrod) today. Gonna see how I feel about the levels and I may build an ISO box for the 1x10. Either way, I can mix and match with my Z M12 and Z Best 2x12 and that will give me a Vintage 30, a G12H30, a Ramrod 10 and 2 different heads to play with. Feels right for me.
Thanks for the help on my (brief) Kemper adventure. I appreciate it.

You can plug your amp heads into it, have a wide choice of cabs, and not bother nobody.

I am looking into this...

I am looking into this... It's a killer studio tool. I can't really justify having both the Kemper and several really nice amps, so I have to choose. Ultimately, the Kemper gives me great results quickly without getting kicked out of the neighborhood. I was at 3rd Power the other day and heard the new Dual Citizen...and damn...I was all hot and bothered...but for doing demos here at the house it just doesn't make sense.
