I have 2 old LA2A's of the Silver face persuasion. The issue is that one of them compresses faster and more than the other. One has a max compression of -15dBish and the other seems to go beyond -20dB with a 1k tone at 1.23 volts. I've switched tubes and the T4 cell between the units and the problem does not follow either of them. Any ideas? Should I be concerned with the difference or is that some what expected with vintage units? Thanks

the passive parts in those bad boys have pretty wide tolerance %tages, and drift with age, it doesn't surprise me the differences you mention, if they sound good, and aren't smoking, i wouldn't worry about it. JMO, and there are other fellas that have more experience than I, that hopefully chime in.
good luck with it T

You've got mid to late 70s LA2As? Standards were not that high or precise with component manufacturers at the best of times. Lots of bum parts too! Try finding ANY 2 units that sound alike. You can get really close if you through enough of them, but that's about it.
