I ran into an old buddy tonight at a nice restaurant/bar on the beach that I hadn't been to in years. He was excited to show me his new Tone King Metropolitan amp. It sounded really nice, but he said he still has his Dr Z's. He seriously has a different amp every couple of months. He has probably played through just about every model amp that has been made twice over. I really liked that Metropolitan amp. It had a very nice voicing and could do that old fender thing. Have you heard one and what are your thoughts?

I've owned both the Metropolitan and the Sky King. Both were awesome amps and even though one is 6V6 and the other 6L6 based I could get pretty similar sounds out of them. The attenuator on both worked great for getting good tone at lower levels, but both also had plenty of head room. The tube tremolo on the Sky King was one of the best I've heard. I also owned the Falcon which is really the most fun and practical one of the bunch, but then again we love gear so practical usually doesn't enter into the equation.
