I normally ascribe to the "you get what you pay for" philosophy. And, in the last year I've been thinking about buying a Custom Shop Les Paul, which is a 4K+ investment. The other day, a friend of mine came over with his PRS SE Singlecut and his Friedman SS-100 Steve Stevens Signature Head. We played the PRS through the Friedman and my Marshall 4x12 and I was blown away at how good the PRS sounded for distorted chorus chords type rock sounds. So I bought it: $300.00 This guitar imo is an incredible value for people wanting a humbucker guitar with fuller sounding mids. Additionally, I always play the guitar unplugged to hear how it sounds unamplified and it blows away all the Les Paul Standards/Traditionals I've played at Guitar Center which are $1,200.00+ more. I've never played a CS Les Paul. So, I can't compare it to the best LP's, but I am really happy with this purchase. So, I thought I'd share my thoughts. I will add that my friend has really taken care of this guitar. So, it was setup right. I've never played another PRS SE Singlecut, but if his was good I suspect there's probably others out there waiting to be grabbed at a really good price. As an added bonus, my friend is bartering with me studio time for the Friedman. So, I'm going to have that baby with me for awhile too
