Since the stupid german motor tuners I buy Gibson clones. I advise all my students not to buy them.
I ask myself who decided to build such a crap.
I still hope they stop it.

They stopped it. And reverted their prices.

How they ever thought it was a good idea...is beyond me... I was flabbergasted when they were announced... And actually ended up buying a 2014 traditional...cause it didn't have all the crap on it.
Cheers

One of my students is still having trouble with an 2014 SG with those stupid german motor tuners. The retailer is not taking care for it, and Gibson feels not responsible if he writes them. Gibson does not takes back faulty builds from the retailers, they have to buy the guitars - blind faith. Needles to say that this was the first and last Gibson the student bought.
Those politics is what keeps me away too. They let the retailers alone, and the customers have to buy even shit builds....

That's a horrendous story, Mr. Holmes. Hope the kid has a Squire or something as a back up.
The Gibsons are so expensive and the Epi's are a bit too frail for gigging - a single drop can break those headstocks, I've seen it. Anyone not seeking clones instead is nuts, imho. I wouldn't support their nasty ass bully-boy business model even if I was a Gibby fan, especially with such a big market for clones. Just buy the PUP's and call it a day.
Thankfully I'm 3 Fenders in and my next guitar buy is either a Gretsch Corvette or a decent Squire Tele..if I can justify a 5th electric guitar.

I wouldn't even bother with the pickups. Lots of great options lollar imperials, fralins etc etc. I don't think epi's are more fragile, drop a Gibson and the Headstock will snap as well.

Wow! Fantastic yet strange news. Maybe I'll finally get that SG I've always dreamed of.
I do like the Epiphones, but no, they ain't no Gibson. I also am a big fan of Gibson pickups in any of my guitars.
