Got a Lewitt MTP440 dynamic mic. Solid built, but I'm not in love with the sound.

I got my Soyuz 017 mic and had a chance to use it once before heading to a conference in Vegas for the week, but am already really loving it. Did a head to head comparison with my Pearlman TM-250 and they are both great keepers just slightly different flavors. On my voice the Soyuz was smoother and the TM-250 was a little edgier. I preferred the Soyuz on a female vocal because she needed the smoothness. I see how both are great weapons based on the type of vocal the song calls for.

Way too many drums. Actually going to be parting with some soon. Got a little too excited and now I've got too many orphans.
Need to get back to buying pro audio stuff I actually use!

Pair of Helios Type 69s!!
He was selling as a pair - which I don't necessarily need...so I'm open to someone picking the second one up if you want. Hit me up.

Uh...fourth or fifth lol. I love them. I think I can live without them and then I can't. They don't have much clean headroom...and the distortion isn't usable...but it has this big bottom, open top and looseness that just feels so right in the right situations.

Just ordered a Radial Duplex direct box. I was assure this one most definitely has Jensen transformers fitted. The last time I ordered a Duplex from a different retailer I was assured by both the distributor and the retailer it had Jensens... it didn't. Let's see how we go this time!

Used a 15% off coupon on Tuesday and picked up an A-Designs Pacifica from Front End Audio. Had one years ago and for some reason sold it. Love how easy it is, turn one knob get good sound.

haven't bought much over the past few months as the exchange rate is very hurtfull. $350 USD is just under $500 Australian dollars. it's probably a better time to sell off gear that was bought when the dollars were at parody.
that aside.
chopshop is in the house.......
a 2nd hand oktava mk012 was also recently acquired destined for the joly experience.

I feel like i went through a phase of buying tons of recording related things and have finally figured out where they are useful.
Here goes....
Hairball Elements Silver kits- Love my Eisen API pres that were from kits. Built 2 of these to same specs. Great on guitars and bass/di.
Fatso Jr.- LOVE on room mics and guitars. Rarely use any comp settings. Just the warmth/saturation is worth the price of admission.
Allen Accomplice head- this actually is on loan. I have a guitar player friend that i trade my guitar/amp tech work for his guitar setups. The Allens reverb tank needed replacing, so until the new one shows up, this thing is giving my #1 (66 blackface bassman) a serious run for its money. I may have to grab one of these for the studio.
Audix I5- much like the 57, i wasn't blown away by it when i first got it. But there's that moment when you throw a 57 on a cab/snare and think "eh"... So you move the mic 3 times, fiddle with amp knobs and maybe swap the pre. Then you try another mic, which seems to always be the i5. And that's where i usually settle. Audix should adopt the phrase "I5- when a 57 just isn't doing it".
I still have more stuff that hasn't found its purpose yet. I'll prob post back here when were on page 8.

Recently sold off a few vintage racked pieces and bought a valve Wurlitzer electric piano, Barefoot mm45 (got a good deal - really cool speakers), and a Smart C1.
All purchases should last me for a very very long time..
Let the tape roll...

Art Pro VLA II bstock for dirt cheap. I bought it to mod, but it's actually quite decent on the right source, so haven't really felt the need to mod yet.

AA Shorti DB-25 times two. I've slowly realized it's a must-have for me, now that I own 9 comps and patching into my hybrid rig is problematic. In fact, I tend not to change things, which is lame. Not any more.

Lynx Hilo
I had been contemplating getting a dedicated AD/DA for a while and was comparing the Hilo and the Antelope Pure2 about six months ago.
Then today our 'el cheapo' headphone amp/monitor controller died.
Although we don't really need a dedicated monitor controller as we have a console, the Hilo's headphone amp and ADAT connectivity helped me to revisit the idea and I ordered a Hilo this afternoon.
We'll use the Hilo for monitoring conversion, analog console mix-downs, and for critical A>D tracking.

A year or so ago the was a loop back test done on the purple site and the hilo trumped the pile. The antelope tested did fairly average. Pretty sure it wasn't the pure 2.

My vp28's came in the mail yesterday baby! Between those two (plus 4 op amps, why do I keep doing this to myself) and this colour palette MKII - I've got a week+ of evenings filled. So it'll be a month or two of 1 evening a week!
