Anyone know a good source for NOS tubes? I mean-I've gotten some from the usual web guys....TubeDepot, TheTubeStore....but, they were always a few here or there--I'm looking to buy a lot. Effectively, enough to make sure I've got NOS tubes for my Hammond/Leslie and various guitar amps for some time to come. Seems like someone would be willing to deal in what might end up being a $1k tube order, depending on what all they have.
Being a small community, I thought I'd put the feelers out here. Obviously, if anyone knows someone in Nashville, let me know--occassionally, British Amps has some...I might call Murph and NashvilleProHammond about the oddball Hammond/Leslie tubes...but, that's what got me thinking--there are tubes in there that I don't have spares of--so, my vibrato scanner just went, and if he told me "just replace the XX tube", I wouldn't have one unless it was the 12AY7s. The Leslie has 6550s...which I don't use in any of my amps...so...it's just time.
Feel free to suggest new manufactured tubes that you feel are as good and reliable. I've been sticking with JJ for preamp and TAD or SED in power where I don't have NOS. That's what prompted me--the WingedC SEDs are $150/pair for 6550s. Read something about them stopping production of them when they sold the name or something...and I've got a Bassman clone that eats GZ34s for lunch--knock on wood, I've got a TAD in their now per British Audio guys--it's been solid, where it arc'd two JJs last year. Still-everyone's advice is the same-"buy a NOS Mullard and you'll never buy another one for the amp".
