I am currently looking for a bass amp with killer tone. For the studio and stage. I want it to be able to keep up with drum set live, but will be used mainly for studio. I got used to the big beefy amp rock sound with grit and drive with a precision bass. You know that gritty killer rock bass sound, or tone it down a bit for something a little smoother. I heard the pre fender SWR amps, that tone impressed me. I currently have an Sansamp RBI preamp. I need a good bass amp though, just want something versatile but not super expensive. Can you steer me in the right direction, I am not a bass player, however I am a drummer and I like great bass tone.

A 1977-1979 Lab Series L2 or L4 bass amp with an external 15" cabinet will have no trouble keeping up with a kit and gives glorious sound!!

You need watts, a lot of them. I use a small TecAmp 1000 watter. The cab is small, a 2x12 Thiel fitted with a pair of Eminence Delta 12 drivers, 40~6k hz, 97 db at 1 watt and 400 watt ratings, those things are bass pistons. Only about $150 a pair.
