i just got my 4watt Vox Student back from the tech with new caps and a grounded cord. ran a couple distortion pedals into it and recorded and holy hell. What a huge sound in the mic. In the room, not impressive at all. But a totally different story on 'tape'.
what are your favorite TINY recording amps...and no one say princeton reverb.

Only wee amp I ever owned was a Vox AC4. Great little amp, perfect for any midrangey cranked singled ended amp sound (Layla, end of Stairway) would have loved to try it into a larger speaker when I had it.

Maybe not in the tiny category but my Carr Skylark is the best small amp I've ever owned. With the Attenuator engaged if goes from 1/100th of a watt to 1.2 watts and with it disengaged it is 12 watts. Fairly light and sounds great at just about any setting. It can get really crunchy at low volume but still has plenty of clean headroom for a small amp.

Those look pretty sweet. Just a bit more than I'd be willing to pay. And of course, I doubt they ever pop up used. I'm especially intrigued by the mad scientist kit

That's an AWESOME choice for tiny amps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yup. Definitely qualifies as "tiny". A deluxe is not tiny. LOL The emery micro baby into a real vintage (not vintage by name) celestion greenback (16 ohm stolen out of a half stack back in the day) is probably my favorite amp in the world. And that's up against my blackface early 60s Paul Rivera modded Deluxe. I've never recorded a harsh, hashy tone out of it. Smooooooooth! Highly recommended.

The Roland Micro-Cube. If only you could switch emulations on the fly. I did a gig in a well known NYC club in Greenwich Village. I was a guest. After producing a single for a friend that I played on, I joined him for the song. It's an extremely lively room and you're facing the short side of a rectangular brick wall, so the sound's bouncing right back at you. I set the Micro-Cube to the Vox, ( I think, or the Marshall), the soundman looked at me crosseyed and scoffed, like I was some schmuck, but I told him, just mic the hell out of it. They have a good PA. I sounded like Pete Fricken Townshend when he played a stack, just massive and ballsy and perfect for the room. The soundman couldn't look me in the eye all evening, ha!
I just remembered he asked me how many watts it was, and I said "two". I knew what was coming next, ha!

Fender tweed champ. Vibro champ, Champion 600, etc.
Or for super-tiny, Fender Mini Twin. Fun little toy. It even does have two speakers!

Little amps? Well, let's see....
I've got a Vox Lil' Night Train "lunchbox" head - 1.5 to 2 watts out of a 12AT7 tube, operated in Class AB push-pull. Very cute and it's made it onto a couple of tracks. Was an impulse buy off the used mini-amp shelf at GC.
Have a Marshall Class 5, 5 watts out of one EL84. 3 knob tone circuit. Sounds just like a baby Marshall. Wish it had a presence control,. but I don't think anything like the real circuit would be feasible in a single ended Class A amp circuit - no negative feedback loop.
Epiphone Valve Junior head, used to have a combo as well. Everyone knows what they do.
Also have one that's pushing the 10 watt limit, might actually be 12, which is a Fender Champ 12, one 6L6 in single ended Class A. 12" speaker. Pretty decent clean sounds up to a bit of breakup. Has a pull distortion feature that's fairly useless IMO and a tiny onboard spring reverb tank (chinese) that's useable but not really great. The smallest one of the "red knob" series Fenders. Got that one at Goodwill for $40, great deal!
