It has been about a year now and time for a thorough fretboard cleaning and oiling. I have always used linseed oil, though my guitar tech adds a little terpentine in his. Any thoughts to add? What do you'all use?

I use the Dunlop guitar fingerboard kit (one bottle is a cleaner, the other is a conditioner/oil, and then you polish the frets after doing both with a special cloth), works great, do it every 6 months to a year on all my guitars.

Teak oil is I believe boiled linseed oil and U.V. inhibitors made for outdoor wooden furniture in mind so that the wood is able to deal better with the sun and is more able to withstand the rigors of vastly different enviornmental conditions changing from winter cold to summer hot. It is probably thicker than straight up linseed due to the boiling. I guess it works a charm.
I broke out the ukulele that I bought fairly recently tonight and noticed that the fretboard was as dry as the Sahara Desert. Tomorrow I have a chore. I guess I also should get a humidifier thingy for it. All my acoustics are humidified consistently in this dry, dry heat of our home during the winter time. The summers here in Switzerland are not very dry and we don't use AC so the wood isn't terribly affected.

Well whatever they do, it's been working on 19060s Fender Telecasters Jazzmasters and Jaguars for me since about 1978 and no issues yet. It was my mom's idea. She said "it's fine wood, wash lightly with murphy's oil soap then use teak oil to keep the moisture in. Guess what? Mom wasn't wrong. No damage or shrinkage on guitars over 50 years old

I use an ancient bottle of lemon oil. Using it for 20 years on my basses. Just takes a few drops.

Vintage lemon oil, wow, you're taking this to a whole new level. I bet it sounds more analog.

I used lemon oil for years. Lately, I've been using mineral oil. It works nicely.

Hey Dan...mineral oil is a petroleum product and probably not the nicest thing for your skin to absorb as it is a hydrocarbon. It all adds up over a lifetime and does no good.

My understanding is that nearly all lemon oil you buy in stores is mineral oil with lemon additives.

True, same as I have understood it. The plant based linseed oil justs gives me a more wholesome feeling, a more life enhancing sense next to the highly processed, and so voided emptiness that I vibe off of the petroleum distilate. I might be weird but I feel like I'm should be doing it cleanly and naturally for my lovely guitars and other fretboard instruments.
