One more update on the fake MAT02..
They are indeed fake. I bought a handful of different dual NPN transistors in the same package type and proceeded to cut them all open to see if any matched what I received as MAT02..
We have a winner!
"2n2060" is exactly the same as what was in the supposed MAT02. The same dual dies with cross-shaped junctions. Seems like a rare part here in the USA, but I got a couple from Europe for a couple dollars.
I'm not sure these are even truly 2n2060, but they have the same "KOREA" stamped on the side with the same silicon dies inside. Probably some secondary manufacturer like Central Semi or NTE's version.

So I hit the distributor up once again and they swore once again that they didn't think they were selling fake parts, but promised a refund.. And then went radio silent again.
Otherwise, I found a PCB error while doing more testing with the first unit. I'm almost finished with units 2 and 3 though!
Once I'm happy that the design at large is working perfectly (hopefully this week), I'll start hitting people up who've said they wanted one and we'll arrange for payment/shipment.

Great to hear that the project is nearing completion given all of the BS along the way!

So I've sorta let these slide a bit trying to finish up the LA3A boards since those were the low hanging fruit..
But I'm back at these.
I have two completed and tested units available for those who want them.
I'm also about to finish the Version 2 of the PCBs that get rid of all the wiring, but those will be a while before I'm ready to sell them. I think I might want to go ahead and put all the effort into version 2 since the version 1 wiring takes FOREVER to do, and frankly I'm not liking the amount of wires. It's not affecting the audio in any way, but I'm just anal like that!
So I'll sell the first two version 1 units, and then possibly do another couple while I wait for the final pieces of the version 2 units.

First couple have shipped, waiting for payment on one, then I hit up the next folks on the list!

So now that things have settled back down for me and I shipped a few, I'm now restarting the production of these!
I should have the next evolution of boards soon, and after some testing to make sure they work correctly, I should be able to build these pretty quickly myself.
I apologize to those who might have been waiting on these, but so many things went wrong with the process on these between the fake transistors, PCB stuffing time issues, wiring complexity, that I needed to spend the time redesigning the PCB to ensure that no further issues arise, rather than keep trudging forward with a product that I can't keep up production on. I essentially lost money on the first ones I sold due to all the issues, but I refuse to keep increasing the price I already stated.
So far, the first generation unit would take about 6 hours to drill and machine the chassis, install the PEM studs, stuff the PCB, wire up, and test. That might be fine for a one-off unit, but not for more than that.
The new PCB and chassis design take about 1 to 1.5 hours to build, which is more within reality for a hand-made design with commercial design quality.
What I'll do this time is build a handful and put them in the classified section and people can buy them there, instead of trying to interface with people over PM's and such. It becomes very hard to keep up with who I'm talking to when there's dozens of messages going back and forth in the threads and in PM's.

Update!
I've been busy with a lot of stuff, but catching up, finally.
I'll have 3 of these available in the next couple weeks, and I'll see if anyone is still interested in these at that time.

Yes, 300$ plus shipping. Super clean! These are directly based on the schematic, so they'll sound exactly like an SSL 9K preamp should.

These look great. Could there ever be an option with a push button 80hz hipass or even an 8ch version?

So, I'm building the last few units specifically for folks who've requested them, and after that, I'm done building these forever.
It was a fun project, then it wasn't, but it was fulfilling at least.
Now on to the next projects!

I need to finish my mixer channels.. I need to do the board layout for my DI box.. I think those are the two main ones right now.
