These are impressive tones. Doesn’t veer off into the obligatory high gain/ping-pong-delay stuff (which most videos are full of and which put me to sleep) until the end. That was from a year ago too...the modeling has improved even in the 5 months I’ve had mine.

Noob question: When using the AxeFX for re-amping, is there a way to temporarily reset the input globally on all the presets to Input 2 so you can easily audition amp sounds without editing the input on every preset?

Bump. Sorry. Haven’t tried to reamp anything.

I don't know. What I do is bring the reamp cable back into input 1 on the back panel. If an instrument is hooked up to input 1 on the front, it seems to override the back panel input. I just unplug the instrument cable from the front when I want to reamp.

That works fine when I change the input on the individual patch in AxeFX. When I try to use unbalanced input 1 I get a ground loop. I did a workaround coming out of my interface into the Kemper profiler input, then direct out into the front of the AxeFX. The Kemper has ground lifts and that worked. I should buy a re-amp box.

Interesting. I'm also just coming straight out of a line-level output(with the level turned down), but I don't have a ground loop. Guess I got lucky.

I'll try your method with the rear ¼" input, see if it works.
update: it didn't. There's a hum issue with the loopback to the interface from the Axefx's outputs. It works if the connection is balanced, otherwise not. I could try making an unbalanced cable with the ground lifted on one end. Or buy a re-amp box.

Alternate re-amp method for a track already committed:
Instead of using all the amp, use the power-amp in or effects loop return on a tube amp run an aux send out of your system down the pipe to the amp's power amp input. Use the speaker output into various different cabinets and speaker This can add add depth and warmth to a recorded part, especially one from an emulator like the AFX or Kemper units.
Mic up and re-record to your heart's content. You can now listen to the micing technique in context also!

I have reamped Pod tracks before, despite not having a DI version of the take. It still came out better than what was handed off to me tone wise. Notable because it was one of those “this probably won’t work” moments that totally did.
Sorry for the OT.

Anyone know how to use third party cab IR's with AxeFX? Also, can I get a 4x12 (or just a great sounding) cab recommendation outside the ones in the presets? There's a zillion cabs in the software, can't sit there and try all of 'em.
One of my favs is the 1x10" Princeton cab.

York Audio has really good ones...one way to try out different cabs is on the cab block, you’ll see the number (#xxx). Click on that box and you can use your arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll through the different cabs. That’s assuming you’re using Axe Edit - and if you’re not, that makes life infinitely easier. Ownhammer has good stuff too.

I’ll be really interested in hearing your take. Cliff said this was actually 13.0 but he was superstitious. I hadn’t particularly thought the top end was a weakness - there were amps that I thought could be too brute, but I just avoided them. Dr Z Max 38 for one. Some of the Marshalls with the bright switch. But this update is a massive step up imo.

I'll be working in the studio this weekend getting ready for a session and I'll do a before/after with a couple amps. This will be a punk session so I'll need some brute sounds anyway. I did find a few of the amps like the 5150 blue to be a little gritty sounding, but dark-ish, so I figured out that if you turn up the "smoothing" in the cab, turn down the IR length and drop the LPF on the cab to something like 6K, things get much tighter and less gritty, but also a bit more synthetic. Works great for fitting high gain amps into mixes without resorting to huge EQ moves, but it sounds strange in solo.

I also think they smoothed out the top a little more. Seems mostly universal since I tried the 5150, the AC30, jvm and 800 and they all seem better and less nasal.

Just ordered one yesterday. The endorsements here were all I needed. Going to run it to a free slot on my Spdif splitter.
Preemptively confessed to my boss that I may need a personal day. Or three.

Just FYI - I have no idea how it does with spdif/digital. I think it only operates at 48 and has to be the master...hence the reason I run analog and record it.

I think it only operates at 48 and has to be the master I record over spdif with the AF3 set to internal clock. For whatever reason -maybe by accident- I do not clock to it with my interface or system and it records fine into my Trashcan/Pro Tools rig. Everything is run at 48K. I've also used the analog outs with no issue.

I’ll just run straight into my Orion. I’d just assumed it did 44/48/96, etc. I’m reading the manual tonight. It gets here tomorrow. 🤘

Happy New Year, all. Best wishes to everyone for a better year in every way.
I've just unboxed my new FX III. Wondering if anyone has any standout presets they love re vintage Fendery, Voxy, Hiwatt and early Marshalls?
Also, do you have any favorite 3rd party sites that sell killer presets?
Thanks for any suggestions.
-Randall

One of the best ways to get into the Axe III is to open up an empty preset and load just an amp/cab block of choice - then try variations of those amps/cabs to get a feel of what sounds good to you. For basic fender any of the first 5 presets will give various era Fender tones, you can get a Layla type sound with single coil pretty easily with the Champlifier (preset 24), I like the JTM45 (49) for clean Marshall, and jumped plexi (76) for more driving Marshall tones. Lot's of Marshall flavors to choose from though so YMMV. Some of my favorites are the Carol-Anne models as well as Capt Hook. I also like the Matchbox D-30 and Hi-power (Hiwatt) amps. I always have to tweak the factory presets, especially with humbuckers - they all come across a little bass heavy to me (I use Atomic CLRs for gtr monitors) - usually use the low cut and dial bass back to get it close to where I prefer. You can also get a lot of tonal variation using different cabs/IRs - hence the start simple approach. Highly recommend downloading axe edit from the fractal site - makes seeing options easier than the front panel IMO. I also recommend going to the fractal forum - lots of free presets, IRs, etc - one of the best resources and some really good videos to help walk you through the capabilities.
