Modeled after the old Bluesbreaker pedal circuit. Thank you John Mayer for making those hard to come by now...and tempting me to sell mine because the asking is getting high.
That said...there's some cool new thing every year or so. You found this year's hot item on the internets.
Try a Barber. You can buy them at Corner here (and try them before...imagine that)...I have a Small Fry and a Silver LTD--but, just go play them. You might want more gain than I do--or might want the mid honk of a BB/TS9...you are not me, and they have a whole line of "gain done well"...for not big dollars. And if you don't like them, you're out what? How long's it take you to get to Corner? Keep in mind that most of Barber's have internal trim pots to further tailor response to YOUR amp--that's a crucial thing, IMO. Being able to tuen it so you don't lose low end--there's no way to do that generically, because ver amp and speaker's "low end" is a little different...

Well, there's an 8 month waiting list for the King Of Tone, but the Prince Of Tone is $138 with some Chinese parts...

Yeah....I know...I'd love to try one...but, I don't buy guitar stuff off internet clips. Anytime I have in the past I get it here and go "wtf is THIS?". With drive pedals, specifically, you have to match your guitar and amp...which is why the Barbers are still around--no matter what amp, I can tune them into it.
If you get one, though, bring it over...or I'll bring over my old BlackBoxBB he modeled it after. I know from clips he added a lot more gain to the KOT. The BB is a real Mayer'y strat thing into a Fender amp.

I ordered a KOT a few months ago. I figure if I don't like it, it shouldn't be hard to sell with that waiting list.
