Ok guys, my big sister just won the Texaco Country Showdown, She wrote this song for a friend and because the friend is friends with me too I've got to say that my sister completely nailed exactly what was going on in this relationship. This couple was dear friends with my sister and I, and he cheated on his wife 7 times..... what's amazing is that all the lyrics, every bit of that happened. I'm asking you guys because I'm bias, but damn, I think this song is just bad ass. crystalyatesmusic.bandcamp.com/track/goodbye-letter

If I knew what made a song a hit... well let's just say I haven't figured that out, but it is a lovely song.

It's a "hit" to me. But admittedly, my track record of picking hits has been sketchy the last few years because I loathe bro country and won't listen to it. But those all seem to be hits Your sister is an artist. She has something to say and from the few tunes I've heard her sing, tries to keep it real. Todays market doesn't seem to be the place for that, sadly. She won that talent contest for a reason though. Music lovers like me (judges) saw in her what I saw. A serious artist. If your sister doesn't make a splash in the business, it wont be because of her lack of talent, it will be because the industry gate keepers are flawed. It's a very well written song.

I think it sounds great, It looks on paper to be only two short verses but it's structured well according to my ears.

I think it could be a hit with some more work. It starts off well, the intro is a bit long, but it builds.. and then nothing. I'd expect a solid beat to kick in and then some solid backing vocals through the chorus-ish section. It would make a solid ballad track on a CD but without a full band backing it, I doubt it would get enough traction to be a hit on it's own.
When the A/R people listen, if they aren't hooked within about 10-15 seconds, then they aren't going to listen to the rest of the song. Make the intro about build up and then come in like a freight train and I think you'll get them to listen further.
