I just finished building 5 of these kits which I had in storage for a couple of years. Did the initial short circuit test and Power on test and everything is fine. I now have to do the calibration which is daunting to say the least and leaves me fearful that I will screw it up. Looking for encouragement.

I found the original wording confusing. I don't know if the updated docs changed it or not, but it wasn't hard once I understood it.

I have two from the first revision and two from the second revision on the bench. It's the calibration process that's kept me from moving forward on the builds. I even bought a second hand Oscilloscope, but I have no clue how to use it.

Mine are old look 1st rev. They are really good.
I don't remember clearly, but there was something counterintuitive about the original wording that could easily have you going in reverse order until the trim pots bottom out. If so....recenter and go the other direction! I think the wording was changed, and wasn't there a 'simplification' in the rev2 design?
There is (was?) a potential problem with some non-standard racks too, the initial voltage reference adjustments depend on correct VPR rack wiring, and won't align if not.
Read the big GroupDIY thread.

Mine are first revision also. Tried reading the whole thread a few times - my eyes get blurry and head aches, LOL.

The new ones don’t require the THD adjustment. But it can be done pretty easily in REW if needed. Just don’t ask me for details because I haven’t had to do it in a while.

Words of encouragement: go for it! The worst you can do is not get it right and from what I hear, Jeff will help you out if you’re totally lost.

You’ll be my hero with a video tutorial of your successful calibration!

Can anyone recommend a conversion chart which shows accurately equivalent voltages per a given DBU ? My DMM is quite accurate, but I need to know what voltages I'm looking for while doing this calibration.

So when the calibration instructions say to " apply a 1Khz sine wave at -30DBU " , I need to show 0.0254vrms. This is 254 millivolts, correct?

25.4 mV is 0.0254V

Well, I gave in after some frustrating attempts and sent my units out to be calibrated by Billy Pratt. He did a great job, communicated well and was reasonable with cost. Very happy that I found him to do this for me. So, my sidecar is finally, basically, finished. Maybe. Unless I switch out the Five Fish modules for CAPI VP28s...…. Or add faders...... Or a Silver Bullett…….. Anyway, some pics:

Everything from kits, except the 8200 & 8200A. I had Redco punch out the metal work for the meters and I did all the wood work myself.
