I'd be (and am) looking for a used Heritage.
Gibby also makes a kinda no frills 335 (or is it the smaller version?) and I can't remember the name of it offhand.
I've tried a bunch of the Dots and always came away feeling "decent guitar for the $" but never really wanted to take it home. Mind you I've felt the same about some of the 335s I've tried.
Cheers, Geoff

I've owned a few Dots...Not the finest of builds to say the least...but it's the ballpark feel. Just hard to get one that stays in tune. After reading a little, lots of people suggest the Ibanez AS models...I don't know, though...One day, I want to get a beloved 335 and call it a day. Sweetwater does have a 2 year no interest deal...hmmm...

I have always GAS'd for a 335 but never had the scratch for one. I read alot of reviews & settled on the Schecter Corsair. Boy am I glad I did, sounds great & looks amazing. Spring for one with a bigsby, tons of fun... Guitar center used site usually has 1-2

Had a client with an old El Degas 335 and it was an excellent guitar. Maybe try to find one of these used?

The AS1000 w/p90's looks fun. I've got one of their LP types, Agile AL 3100. First experience with Rondo and I have to say I was pretty surprised. Korean line but very well made and just plays great, at least as well if not better than most Gibsons I've owned. A little heavy but resonant. The action on it competes with my Parker. I did a pickup swap though there wasn't anything wrong about the stock ones. If I was looking for a 335 type and didn't want to spend the cash I'd probably be looking used but would definitely check them out. The only thing some people might not like is the shorter upper bout cutouts. They have a decent no questions asked return policy so you can always chuck it back on the UPS truck. Edit* On second thought I'd probably grab the red flame AS1000, I am such a sucker for nice tops... www.rondomusic.com/product5254.html

You can also check out Tokai. I have an excellent one from 2005 (approximately).
Can't remember the numbering scheme for various models but it may be a 135… in any case, it's a dot neck. I believe they also make one with block inlays.
Worth checking out if the prices haven't gone crazy by now.

Hey just curious if this would be a good deal, but I had a guy offer to trade me his Epi Lucille(?) for my blackstar ht-20 studio today. Would that be a fair trade? My amp is worth about $400, and I've got basically every staple guitar besides a 335 type. I'd rather just have cash, but I know me, and I know eventually I'm going to want a 335 type. Should I take that deal? I know this guy and I know he takes care of his gear too.

I just got a JF-1 from Peavey, and it's pretty nice. It's heavy and not quite as 'hollow' sounding as a 335, but it does sound good, with the stock pickups. Plays nice too. Costs $350 from Musician's Friend. Here's a link to a iPhone video of it. www.dropbox.com/s/jffnyo0fhxn5x7q/IMG_5424.MOV

Any good (much cheaper) 335's beside the Epi Dots? Can't answer directly, but perhaps I can toss this into the discussion: I've got an Epi Broadway (L5 knockoff) that's been incredibly solid. I think the primary reason is that it's a small-batch guitar, but it may also be because it's Korean instead of Chinese. I think the recent dots are all Chinese, but you might be able to find an older one from before they moved manufacturing. They also had an "Elitist" line until a few years back. Those were fine guitars in every way--probably discontinued because they lined up too closely with the Gibsons. Might be worth hunting around for one of those.

Gotta keep an eye out for them...

I'm pretty sure it's the smaller, 339 sized body, and it has a flat, rather than arched top. AMS has them on sale today for $1500. I thought they were no longer in production (can't find 'em on Gibson's website), but I could be wrong. Cheers, Geoff

Very nice guitar for the money. My boss has been after a 335 for a while and I let him borrow it. He didn't want to give it back. I don't know if that's a good sign or not but I took it as one.

I have a Epiphone Sheraton which was made by the Korean Samick factory. It was made in 1997. I bought it for $325. It is a wonderfully made guitar and it plays better than many Gibson 335's I have tried in the stores. It is really great looking, with cream binding and cool fret markers Though I havent done this yet, I am sure it would benefit from an upgrade in pick ups, pots, switch and wiring. You know, I think I am going to take this to my tech next week and get it done. Mine looks just like this one, although my hardware is in much better shape www.ebay.com/itm/1996-Epiphone-Sheraton-Semi-Hollow-Body-Electric-Guitar-Case-No-Res-/221468978953?pt=Guitar&hash=item3390946f09
