Would this really be better than my jcm2000 dsl? It sounds better. The DSL amps are great for live stuff, but recording wise, you want a single great tone and track each part separately, not be switching anyhow. We're no longer limited to 23 tracks. I'm looking around and asking friends/family from the south shore to Lawn Guy Land about a Vox or decent blackface Fender for you as well. Budget is $1K?

I haven't tried them all so I'm no expert but I settled on the 68 Deluxe Reverb reissue for my Fender sounds. I like it. I've used it mic'd, with an extension cab in an ISO box and also with the Suhr Reactive Load. I've been able to get satisfactory results with all of those setups. I find this amp sits in more or less the center of the Fender sonics I go for so it's been a good choice for me. Jesse, I also have an AC15 that I like. It's nothing fancy, just the cheap one. I put some NOS tubes from Bowie in there (as well as the 68 DRRI) and they make a subtle but nice improvement (I blind AB'd various DI tracks before/after NOS tubes). I have a few other amps but I use the AC15 or Deluxe Reverb 95% of the time. Some vintage amps sound better but I can't really afford them and if you have talent as a player and engineer you can get good sounds out of these. I more or less sound like me on any decent amp (for better or worse). The DRRI is on my list for sure, though I haven't read enough/heard enough to know whether I would prefer the 68 or 65. I love those little Champs, new and old, but, as a pedal platform, they don't work so great unless you intend to stay at a really low volume. Conversely, I think the Twins are too much amp for what I'm looking for. So, as far as Reissues go, that left me looking at the Princeton, Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, and Super Reverb, of which the Deluxe Reverb is the one I had been leaning towards because of the feature set and wattage. That being said, for the Deluxe Reverb RI, there is the 65, 64 Custom, and 68 Custom. The 64 Custom RI is probably too expensive since you might as well go vintage at that point, which leaves the 65 and 68. I'd need to play both to make a decision. What's the reason you chose the Deluxe Reverb 68 over the 65?

Quint jcoutu1 Yeah mine's the 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. I played both in shops but was always leaning towards the 68. I found this video really helpful. All guitars in the mix toggle together between the 65 and 68.

BF Bandmasters are usually under $1K and even if they need work they're easy to fix and bring back to AB763 specs. I bought a modded one for $250 a few years ago and for less than $1K had an amazing recording/live 2x12 combo amp... Also bought a Tremolux for $650 4 years ago - there are deals to be had. As for Deluxe Reverb, Princeton/Princeton Reverb and Champ/VibroChamp, save the money and get the silver face versions - pretty much the same circuits for less. Go for the less-desired pull-boost versions... just don't use the pull boost.

Just wish I had mine back - stolen from my Public Storage locker 2 years ago as well as 2 QSC PA speakers and a great little 1x12 extension cab for my Princetons.
The Tremolux is great, but for some live gigs where monitoring isn't great, the combo cab (by Newell) allowed it to project to the drummer from the back.

Which rm50 modules do you have? How much do they go for? The stock older Randall Modules usually cost around $175 - $200. I've owned the Randall Bogner clone (it slayed my Mesa Recto), the Randall JTM clone (pretty damn good for that dirty/clean tone), and currently own the Salvation Mods Mashall which is like the JMP/JCM with a switchable high gain mod. It's the balls. I've used a few other modules as well. The modded ones from Salvation Mods and Jadded Faith are mostly pretty killer. I haven't followed up with the Synergy stuff since Egnator took over the format. Egnater originally designed it then licensed it to Randall, should say 'designed by Egnater' on the back of your RM50. That was my first modular amp with a stock Clean module and a mod'd Ultra XL. I still use a Randall 4 slot preamp along with an Egnater 4 slot dual channel preamp, just started playing the Fryette Deliverance Synergy module in it. The Salvation and Jaded Faith custom mods are generally better renditions of the amps they copy, they actually pay attention to part selection whereas Randall filled the PCBs with the same parts across all modules.

Good to hear from another Randall RMS fan. Yeah, I'm aware of the Egnator lineage and really glad they took over the product line. It would have been a shame it had died. It's still a little perplexing why they aren't more popular than they are...marketing maybe? When I first got into it I was playing in a melodic metal/Nu-metal band and using a Mesa Triple Recto. That head cost me $1200 used, which was a killer deal at the time. I bought a Randall RMS 50 and their Bogner clone (the XTC IIRC) for $800 total and it just blew away my Recto setup. Compared to the Mesa it just had tone for days.
I totally agree that some of the clones are better than the actual amps themselves. If I'm being honest, my Mashall Module is a way more useful tool than my actual '78 JMP. Even though I get warm feelings in my stomach just looking at the Marshall, its really a one trick pony and not nearly as reliable. The Mashall clone on the other hand has a great variety of tone, from clean to high gain.

Just read through the thread, congrats on the Vox! I have a newer and vintage AC30 and am toying with the idea of selling both and just getting an Ac15...they are plenty loud. I'm sure you'll dig it.
An amp I thought I might see mentioned but didn't is the Ampeg Gemini. I own several vintage amps, including a 12" Gemini and would never sell it. If I had to start over again, it would be the 2rd or 3rd amp I'd buy. Last time I looked you could still get a nice vintage unit for $600-$700.
Excellent trem & reverb. At lower volumes with a hollow/semi-hollow guitar it's beautifully clean/warm and great for jazz... reminds me of George Barnes. But, if you crank it up, it' breaks up perfectly and you'll find yourself playing Brown Sugar. It's also got this crazy "presence" push/pull pot for the treble. Pull it out and it cuts all bass and you have an instant Paperback Writer tone. Fun to experiment with. American but not Fender. Different but just as good. Very versatile amp.
I like Bandmasters too and they are a nice affordable platform for upgrades. A few tweaks and simply swap the wimpy output tranny to a bassman one and you end up getting close to a Super Reverb/Vibroverb type of thing. I did this with a Bandmaster Reverb head I put into a combo cab. More ballsy is how I'd describe it. Highly recommended mod.

Wow, brilliant scores on the Silvertone cab and the Deluxe. Which Vox did you end up with?
I don't like the Bandmaster head at all I prefer the Showman, big beefy iron. I had a blackface Bandmaster that didn't stay long, but I have a silver faced Showman that's getting set back up today probably.
You might want to try to find a Silvertone 1484 or 1485 head to go with that cabinet. A lot of them are really beat up now. But 1484 was my main amp for many years. I need to track down another one.

Sorry I’m late to this thread. Congrats on the AC15, Jesse! When I was looking for a Vox sound, I settled on an AC30CCH. It pairs well with my various cabs, has the ability to mimic several classic AC configurations, and is generally just a beast. Huge iron, heavier than my old Ampeg V-4. Great Vox sound and reasonably affordable. Check out the tech write up at the Vox showroom.com: www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/ac30cc-insidestory.html

Quint jcoutu1 Yeah mine's the 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. I played both in shops but was always leaning towards the 68. I found this video really helpful. All guitars in the mix toggle together between the 65 and 68. I think I'm getting pretty sold on the 68 instead of a 65. I went and tried them out. I prefer the 68. They didn't have a Vibrolux to try though. I'm interested in that one also, due to the higher wattage. It's not a Twin kind of loud, but it still would provide a little more headroom than a Deluxe. I do think I tend to prefer 6V6 to 6L6, generally speaking. Did you ever get a chance to try the Vibrolux?
