I haven't bought anything new in ages. Almost jumped a couple times at AMS 1081 pair but couldn't pull the trigger. But I think I'm about ready to fall off the wagon. Help me spend some money. Any recommendations?

Any recommendations? For starters, you need 2 of everything from audioscape and at least one Heiserman H47 tube with both headbaskets. For starts.

Pappy Van Winkle I was at a swanky business function at a very high end steakhouse a few years ago and a drunk coworker was berating our waiter. The waiter took it in stride and said something like, how can I make you happy? And my idiot coworker said “give this man anything he wants!” So the waiter looked at me and said, “ok, lay it on me.” I protested a couple of times, but they both kept pressing so I laughed and said “I’d like some Pappy, neat.” The waiter made a face and said “man you know we don’t have any.” And I replied - yeah, seriously I’m fine. About twenty minutes later he very subtly walks up, shows me a bottle, and pours me a glass of Pappy. Best whisky I’ve ever had.

If you don’t have a bricasti, get one. If you do have one, get another!

About twenty minutes later he very subtly walks up, shows me a bottle, and pours me a glass of Pappy. Best whisky I’ve ever had. It really is that good. Several years ago before the hype had gotten crazy, my brother happened upon a bottle in a shelf in a liquor store. The guy there was grinning at him like, "Do you know what that is???". Anyway, he bought it. We couldn't believe how good it was. Neither of us ever saw another bottle on the shelf after that. Waiting lists, etc. His wife is a buyer for a large clothing/fashion company and a couple years later she was at a dinner (vendors wine and dine the buyers because the buyers hold the purse strings for millions of dollars of orders) and she mentioned that her husband liked whiskey. What kind does he like? the guy asks and the first thing she thought of was "Pappy something?" Guy smiled, conversation moved on. A week later a bottle showed up on their doorstep. It was our special occasion whiskey for a few years after that. It really is incredible. Anyway, sorry for the hijack, Herbie! You could make a damn fine sounding record with a cassette 4-track but if you wanna drop some coin, I say get an instrument. Investment in inspiration.

I like this sub-topic. Does anyone have a crazy Vodka stories? I'm a vodka connoisseur now.
Gear wise I agree with ragan. Either an instrument, or possibly a microphone if you want something to capture it.

Two of each:
UTA MPEQ-1 UTA Unfairchild Mercury M66 (just for a different flavor of Fairchild) JCF Audio AD8 + DA8 GML 8900
And one of each of these:
Antelope Isochrone 10M ASC Attack Wall Wunder Audio Wunderbar
THEN you should be good to start making music.

Never had Pappy...I’ve heard some say it’s fantastic and some say it’s overrated. Been drinking a bottle of Woodford Double Oaked that’s really good. Love Angels Envy, Jefferson and Weller of course, but there’s nothing wrong with a $25 bottle of Bulliet or Rittenhouse.

What roles aren't already filled by existing tools?
What issues exist with current tools that could be improved?
Are there less obvious underlying infrastructure issues that need attention?
What's the budget?

Bulleit Rye is my staple. Oaky, cheap, good. Laphroaig! I used to love Scotch, and peaty stuff like Laphroaig and Ardbeg in particular. I don't know what happened but I fell out of love with it and became a bourbon guy. To each their own... Man, sorry Herbie! Who knew a bunch of musicians would have so much to say about booze...

I was going to ask the same type of questions. Whenever I'm buying, I'm trying to fill a hole of some sort. My last big purchase was a stereo tube mic pre, because I felt it was something missing. Instruments are always good additions, mics as well.

Since this has turned into an alcoholics anonymous thread , Wild Turkey 101 hasn't let me down in years. If Turkey is too much alcohol, Eagle Rare is my next choice. 80 proof and tastes identical to Turkey. Probably my favorite honestly.

Couple of 47's and a Yamaha C7 for sale from the Tracking Room Sale How much are they asking for the C7 John? I'm guessing 30k. Probably cost you 10k to truck it across country, Bill.
