In normal times, I'd work out every day at the gym and only drink a few on the weekends. But in the pandemic, and being mostly quarantined at home (my mother-in-law is living with us as she battles Pancreatic Cancer, which makes her high risk for covid), I have two reasons for drinking every day. One is 8 years old and the other is 3. F--- cancer. And F--- Covid.

F--- cancer. And F--- Covid. AMEN to that. I have two buddies knocking on Death's door with cancer and covid is a constant threat. My ex's mom on Long Island has CV19, her dad and brothers have been tested and awaiting results and she's getting a test done tonight. No symptoms, but they have to go through it. She teaches Aspergers and Autism spectrum kids in the public school system, so it's very tangly for her.

I'm taking the day off -- probably tomorrow too. But Thursday, I'll be right back at it!

You know, we joke about it, but in the first six months of this, I found myself drinking a lot more than I usually did...just because - hey - I don’t have anywhere to be and the whole dam is home and we’re watching movies and staying up late...it’s like Christmas. Really drunk Christmas. I’ve settled down a bit with it, but man, I really believe we’re going to see an uptick in alcohol related everything at the end of this.

I do this. Every day. In fact, every day of my life. Today is day 21,504. I go years at a time without ay alcohol of any sort. The past 3 years, I've grown fond of bourbon. But I'll likely get tired from it, and of it, soon and join the teetotalling brigade once more. God introduced us to alcohol in the first place. At least that's common lore in many places, as the Hebrew children in Egyptian captivity made beer to help them get through, and wine came from Israel and Lebanon first . . . and hey, our Lord and Savior made wine. kind of a decent endorsement there. Yeah . . . I'm gonna have a great big long dry out after Christmas and New Year's. I'm normally only a 1 or 2 drink guy, but none sounds less expensive and easier on the hands, voice and belly. O:) (that's an angel smiley)

I haven't had a completely dry day in years. But I also drink a lot less than I used to. When it becomes self harm, it's no fun and no bueno any longer.
Will admit that the first few weeks of Covid were terrifying, so there were probably a few extra martinis.
Most days though just a few beers and get on with life.

I had a head injury this spring but this summer I was stuck inside, unemployed, with no job in sight. I was going through a ton of booze. Maybe 20 drinks a week. I cut back a lot because I was gaining weight. Then I got sick and am back to one or none a day. At least it’s not a six pack a day.

I was going through a ton of booze. Maybe 20 drinks a week. Is that the equivalent of a fifth and a case of light beer? If so, then I get 'cha.

Just saw myself in a doc that one of my clients did about his album...and I’ve GOT to lose weight. Do it! Cut drinking for the month, cut out half your carbs and take about 1/3rd of what you eat off your plate. That’s gonna go a long way to helping you out. When you go for a snack, just think to yourself.. would I eat a banana right now? If the answer is no, then do 10 sit ups and step away from the kitchen.

I took yesterday off. Less is the goal. That's all I'm promising.
My average for the year was up 0.1/day versus 2019, still lower than 2018 and before. My 'binge' (4 or more) was exactly the same as 2019 (much of that is usually semi-frequent open bars at corporate events, ya know, with the REAL professional drinkers). Not bad for a pandemic. I know 'cause I started writing it on the calendar every day about 4 years back, accountability and shit.

Dry Diary, Day 3:[/u]
The extreme deficit of rum and whiskey and other elixirs has been testing the crew's mettle. Shortness of temper and breath has been experienced by the captain and junior crew members (5 and 10 year olds) seem to be louder for some odd reason. Also, there seems to be more work to be done and the wench is demanding I carry more of the load, including (EEK!) domestic chores.

I'm going to try referring to my wife as "The Wench" and see how that goes...
