The 3348 was why Apogee exists, upgrading the filters was a must!

What I understand is it's the sound of several different converters that have modeled on this plugin . Being a digital machine the tape itself was 1&0's

I've got a lot of respect for Mixland after they did such a stellar job on the Unfairchild plugin, but good lord is this a weird one . I'll try it at some point out of morbid curiosity, I just don't know what to think about this. It's just a DAT machine with a stationary head.

This is what the Lord-Alge brothers used for years so I'd imagine that's the bulk of the appeal.

This is idiotic. They’re modeling resistor converters, some of which lacked oversampling, dither, and noise shaping. The only way to do this would be to reconstruct the signal like a modern converter and then attempt to emulate a resistor converter in software with the quantization distortion, least significant bit distortion, shitty filters with thousands of degrees of phase shift, and aliasing. That they try to prevent aliasing with more oversampling than the units had is hilarious. This is so stupid.

If im not mistaken this or maybe it was a Mitsubishi machine? Was labeled by AE's in mid 80's as "the end of music" because it sounded so bad..., I want to say it sampled at 50khz? I'm going way back to youth memories here, I could be wrong

That some of them sound good has nothing to do with what they were mixed down to.

My daughter is in high school. The 88-95 digital sound is in fashion- and not in a joke way-, as hard as that is to believe.

On this one considering you couldn’t give away 3348 about 3 years ago, I just can’t imagine the creative or financial impetus for this one, other than we can do it.

You had to AD to DA loop. There are CDs from back in the day where everything just pitch shifted from 44.056 khz to 44.1 kHz or 50 khz to 44.1 kHz

I guess one use I could see is that if someone is trying to emulate the CLA sound by using his Waves SSL presets for instance....putting this on first may make those big 8kHz shelf boosts make more sense? This in theory would get you closer to the starting sound he had when making those presets maybe? Particularly if the sample rate & bit reduction emulation lopped off some of the top end.

Not sure if the rate reduction can make up for such high end boosts. The CLA boosts make much more sense when pushed into a hardware compressor, so probably that's the key, not the source. That's in my humble opinion.

I’m not saying it makes sense though 🤣

Is the M-Audio Delta 1010 in the pipeline after this one? Or is the Digi M-Box next?

Is the M-Audio Delta 1010 in the pipeline after this one? Or is the Digi M-Box next? I sold my Delta 1010 to a Craigslist guy in a parking lot nearly 20 years ago.
