Check out what came home with me today. I know everyone says this, but it's the most incredible sounding acoustic I've ever played - including vintage. If anyone is interested, Gruhn's has them at 45% off retail for their 45th Anniversary this weekend. That's $1700 cheaper than it's listed at Sweetwater, GC and everywhere else. This sale and a couple other fortuitous incidents allowed me to buy this and I'm very, very thankful! It's more guitar than I ever excpected to be able to afford...I was after a particular Collings D2HA - which sounds really, really good. I mean really good. joelhamilton can vouch for that guitar...but I sat down and chose between three of these at Gruhn's and this thing was just unbelievable. The dynamics are just astounding. I'll post pics of the actual thing later tonight, but here's a review of the model...

It has a truss rod but no way to adjust - just like the real ones...a little scary, but just means I've gotta keep it hydrated and keep strings on it.

Keeping it hydrated starts with a hygrometer people!! Not knowing the humidity level and adding moisture is like a doctor prescribing the same medicine to everybody without examining them.
As for a truss rod, these guitars sound so dang good it doesn't matter. And that Collings was special so this one must be amazing.

Yeah - I need to by a hygrometer...We're pretty humid here, so I'm probably pretty safe as long as I don't leave it by the fire at night Here's a quick mono recording - CV4--Helios--Burl...I would probably use the C5 on the neck, but it's out on assignment right now. I added some verb, low cut at about 50hz and added a little top shelf at 10khz. Pardon the playing https%3A//soundcloud.com/johnandkris/1937test

Wow that's an incredible mid range on that guitar. It's far and away the best balance I've heard in some time.

Sounds AWESOME. You must be so stoked right now. Wow that's an incredible mid range on that guitar. It's far and away the best balance I've heard in some time. This is exactly why I love great Martin Dreads. They're so impeccably balanced and voiced from top to bottom, it's like playing a grand piano.

Here it is Raw...Only Invisible Limiter to make it louder...Actually sounds better - guess the guy who mixed the last one got carried away.

Can you imagine two parts panned left and right...oh yeah baby...And again, that's not particularly the mic I would use on it either, but I do love the thunderous bottom it's getting for just a guitar/vocal. Can't wait to stereo mic and see what that sounds like. Or mid/side

that thing sounds very sweet man, really. i bet with a careful mic set up in a killer acoustic space, it'd be insane!(that is not taking anything away from what i hear now, i'm just thinking in terms of maxing the potential of that thing, it's killer man!)
did you ever pickup that sheet of tempered hardboard? With that Gtar in your possession, you need to make a nice reflective/acoustically excitable area around you/it, you'll never leave the house again man 8)

That kinda looks more like a D-28 Marquis - which is awesome too. I'm getting totally nerdy here, but on the Authentic, the binding is aged and the headstock is varnished. Plus, the toner on that one looks a little more yellow.
