After trawling around music shops with my pedals and guitar I hand in completely fell in love with the Fender Princeton 68 re-issue - it really is perfect for low volume project studio tracking and by design it takes pedals really well.
With my Fulltone OCD and a Les Paul, Strat or Tele I'm in tube tone heaven.
I've taken to recording it with a ribbon mic and an SM57 and I think it sounds really great.
I actually can't stop playing through it - it's addictive! I really love the rectifier sag - it's such a classic "rock 'n' roll" sound to my ears - it's a fab classic Fender 6V6 amp.
My other two choices would be for an EL84 the Laney L20T-212 Lionheart 2x12 Combo - totally different sound to the Princeton - very British sound to my ears.
Third would be a Divide by 13 Head and cab but it's way out of my price bracket!

You preferred the 68' reissue to the 65' ?

Yes I did because Fender have made mods to the 68 tone stack that lends it to lower volume project studio recording, the manual says it has been made to take pedals really well - it definitely does, pedals are very touch sensitive and also has reduced negative feedback and more rectifier sag - all things that really float my boat suit my playing style and music.
Now if I was choosing one for live I might of gone for the 65 as it had more clean headroom.
But this was a only going to be recording amp - I think it's a real gem and perfect for my home project studio - the tube reverb and tremolo are lovely too :-)

I see, Ward--for some reason I thought you were in Nashville. My bad. I'll be back in 'The Capitol' soon enough! If not April, then May and definitely in July. I've just had a lot of time traveling of late, and it gets a bit exhausting. If there was only some way to make money in Nashville...
