That super and Vibro Verb are just killer. You should really try that Austin Buddy Naked amps. He sets up a lot of things I wouldn’t necessarily think about. Definitely going to check out Austin’s stuff soon. If we can just have one normal day on this fn planet ...

Adjusting the B+ voltages for "broken" tones is fun/awful. Nasty ghost notes unrelated to played tones. I don't think Kemper can do that. I had a Mesa that had that in real life, 50hz somehow strongly modulating the tone like a ring modulator.

That's amazing. I keep lying to myself and telling myself I don't need this. But deep down, I know I do.

So I have this sweet pedal board set up that does the whole classic rock/classic country thing with the Iridium as my amp modeling thing. But this............

So I have this sweet pedal board set up that does the whole classic rock/classic country thing with the Iridium as my amp modeling thing. But this............ Two different ways to get the job done. Do you prefer knobs (at the expensive of extensive tweakability) or menus (at the expense of simplicity)?

I agree. I can get what I need/want with what I have now just fine especially since I have some good outboard compression and EQ. I should just continue down the mic/recording gear rabbit hole.

Apparently, there’s a major update coming...Cliff posted this a week or so ago
“ I unlocked the secret of "chug". It's been an epic undertaking with working sunrise to moonrise every night for the past month (at least) but the the fruits of the labor are almost ready for the picking.”
And then posted this today
“ I'm working on it. Every amp model needs to be reentered. Lot of work. So far it is sounding fantastic. It's hard to keep focused as I get distracted playing.
It can be a bit shocking at first. Those "vintagey" amps are quite a bit different in some cases. Spitty, gnarly, nasty, angry sounding. The "polished" sound is gone. The low end is tighter. High gain amps growl and chug with a vocal quality. Medium gain amps purr like a big cat. Low gain amps sound big and chimey.
The whole impetus for this was I was doing some critical listening and I noticed that certain amp models didn't have the same distortion "texture" as the real amp. The amps sounded like rubbing two rocks together while the models sounded more like sandpaper. There was also a vocal quality. The amps went "chug, chug, yowwwwww" while the models went "chit, chit, yeeeeee". That led to a complete rewrite of the preamp algorithms. What I learned from that I applied to improvements in the power amp algorithms.”

Apparently, there’s a major update coming...Cliff posted this a week or so ago “ I unlocked the secret of "chug"." I was very glad to see this on the Fractal forum. I've realized over time that there is something missing from the modeling of the Marshall Plexi amps. A great early Marshall exhibits an aggressive/sharp transient when a note or chord is picked that the AF3 doesn't do. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I wouldn't call it "chug". I think some amp designers (Komet) call this characteristic "fast" but who knows, amp terminology is so subjective these days. Greg Morris of Morris Amps calls it "raw" and even includes a control for it on some amps he makes. My ears hear this elusive tone as bright but not harsh, distorted but not fuzzed on the fundamental note. Brown but not burnt (unless you're looking for the Billy Gibbons/early live ZZ tone. That would be barbecued). Light Brown, perhaps? I hope Cliff delivers, otherwise I'm going to call Greg Morris and place an order.

Sounds nice. I think the different amps sound less similar to one another than in other clips I've heard.

Wait I don't get it...did I make a sweet joke when I didn't mean to? It just sounded snarky I totally didn't intend snark. Only thing I can think of is maybe the implication that in other clips, there was a similarity between amps? I didn't intend that as a dig. To me, almost every device like this I've heard or played has a bit of a sound. Kemper, Iridium, OX, Axe... I still think (and have all along) the the Axe is a pretty damn impressive piece of gear and I think we're long past the threshold for getting believable, enjoyable electric guitar tones with these things (though I didn't dig the OX much). In a lot of Axe clips, there seems to me to be a bit of a similarity in the grit, from amp to amp. It's a good grit, it just feels like a bit of a sound. Maybe that's wrong, I've never played one. Just going off, mostly, the videos in this thread, which I always check out cause I think the Axe is cool and I like how the guy keeps improving it. Anyway, in the clip you just posted, I was struck by how much fundamental change there was from amp to amp. Totally different bites and barks and snarls going on.

I heard that with the Kemper, but have never really felt that way with the Axe. Sometimes with the Kemper, I could switch from a Fender to a Marshall and it just sounded like the same amp with different eq. Maybe I can post similar clips from say - Fender Tweed Deluxe, Super, Vibroverb and a couple other Fenders. I’ve been really pleasantly surprised by how different they sound…or maybe go from a Tweed Champ to a BF Princeton to a Orange Tiny Terror to something like a Bogner.
