Finally found a McKenna 10. It’s decent. Not completely sure I’d buy it again, but it’s probably a good one for the price (around $45). I’ve really gotten to the point that I just want the good stuff and it’s worth paying for. Everything else is just an approximation. A metaphor for pro audio gear. Also being a single barrel, some are better than others. Ive had some freakin awesome HM10s. Thats how Blanton's is for me too. Some are pretty mediocre and Id rather just have a pour of green label Weller or Buffalo Trace. Others are next level.

I've noticed I tend to go more for higher rye content...

Love 1792, but this week's winner of the shopping lottery is Larceny. Again

Excellent choice, Professor Dan. This week has been the cheap stuff here due to warm mugginess and the need for ice and mix. Jim Beam double casked and black.

EHT is one of my all time favorites.

EHT is one of my all time favorites. I prefer the Weller 107…little sweeter. But I still prefer Blantons over both. That ER is a store pick. Looking forward to tasting it.

Weller 107 has slipped into the lead for favorite bourbon right now.

Went to a work conference thing at a camp in the forest in Oregon. Open bar. Highlights were Whistlepig 15, Whistlepig 12 rye port finish, Four Roses Small Batch Select, Macallan 18, Redbreast 29, Jameson 18

Drank way too much Stolichnaya and a lot of tequila (Espolon, Lunazul, Altos) at the beach. Slowing down with some beer and La Croix now that I'm back in the sack.

Yesterday was just a couple double-IPAs.
Welcome to Sober October.
I hope I make it before the whiskey evaporates.

Just got back from Puerto Rico. Lots of rum. Highlight was a 6 year Barbados barrel strength finished in port and sherry casks for a year.

Still polishing off this bottle of Larceny. 6 more on the shelf before I get sick of it and move on to something less smooth

It might not be Bourbon, but I picked up a bottle of Templeton Rye (standard, 4 years) for the holidays. I honestly remember it being smoother (though still strong in falvor), but it's probably been years. Tempted to try and use it off quicker with egg nog and hot toddys.

There are several other ryes out there you should try... Templeton is maybe the only company I would discourage people from buying. So much 'creative' marketing. Lawsuit barely changed their practices. Old Forester has a great rye for $20 or so. Michters Rye. Whistlepig Piggyback. High West Double Rye...

You mean the lawsuit around their claim to Templeton, Iowa? What's weird is that some years back, I thought there was a small operation running in that town, but separate from what's being bottled now. But according to wikipedia, the company originally had no connection at all to the recipe or the town and only recently started bottling in Iowa. All I know is that the bottles I'd get from my Iowa-native colleague/client were far more noteworthy. The suggestions are very appreciated! I'll definitely check for those for the next bottle.

I'm a man of habits it would seem. This week it's been Buffalo Trace OG all week. Well since Friday.
