Ordered the Ox. I'll have some time over spring break to check it out and compare it to what I'm getting with my ISO cab situation. If it delivers the goods, it's the Promised Land. If it doesn't, it goes back. Excited to check it out. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts

If it doesn't, it goes back. Excited to check it out. Yeah, no doubt. Let me know what you think. I've got the Kemper sitting here. It's great. Gives me a ton of amp options. My tube amp goes unused (mostly logistical/situational reasons at the moment). I'd love to use it more. Plus, I've got a killer pedal board but I always feel weird about pushing that into a Kemper. I don't know why. The Ox seems like you'd get more leverage if you had a nice amp collection, or saw a heavy rotation of amps through different projects. I've just got a couple, a Swart AST and a Vibro Champ. Nonetheless, I am very keen to hear your thoughts, man.

I think the ox looks killer: but, up here in Canada, almost 2 grand,gives one pause.

I will be curious to hear what you think Ragan. Since using the Kemper for the past couple of years, my tube amps have gotten very little use when it comes to recording.

Amp sims just don't have that smell I have to come to love. Good thing OX isn't an amp sim then!! Seriously, for me (as an engineer and guitar player) OX removes all the "hassles" of recording guitar (auditioning cabs, mics, mic positions) and leaves all the important stuff in place (the player, guitar, and unique tone of YOUR tube amp)

I think that mold on old speakers does something special to the tone...

Love to have one with a head or two to compare with the Kemper. I have a love/hate relationship with the Kemper...I love selling it and then hate buying it back. (Tip your waiters) Anyway, I still sometimes feel like the Kemper can be a bit plasticky - but I attribute it more to my playing and guitar collection than anything.

For the demos I do here at home, having even one amp that sounds like a tamed monster would serve me fantastically. But stacking up a couple of heads would be super sexy lol.

@drew
Can yo tell us how many on board sharc chips the ox has: 2 or 4, same as apollo: chips are dedicated to one channel ? Can you run multiple instances of ox ?

Can you run multiple instances of ox ? kcat, OX is an embedded system that doesn't use sharc chips. The idea was to make a self contained box that would be portable for gigging or for the studio.

so what are the ua plug ins running off of, UA has made native software but only made it available for OX ? The UA plug code has to run on something so there is a little non-sharc computer chip in Ox ? So, UA has migrated its plug in code to a new platform ?

It's an ARM chip.
No, more like adapted parts of it for this product.

Great playing and I'd be happy to have any of them in a mix. For the most part I would venture that only us "cork sniffing" guitar players could tell any difference. The audience that would be listening to the full finished recording wouldn't know any difference. I have that same exact chair in my studio so I am also very impressed that he could sit on the edge of that thing for any period of time playing these parts over and over.

The only thing I dont like about a lot of these Ox demos is that when they mic the physical cab, it’s usually a 57. Then they switch to the Ox modeling but with like a 67 and 121. Totally different sound.
In that one comparing all the various units, I liked the real mic’d cab quite a bit better than any of the units.
We’ll see though. I’m pumped to put the Ox through its paces.
