Anyone else intrigued by this?
I am big time. Initial reports from the wild are mostly very positive.

I can't get into amp VI's. Tried many of them. I've bought the Kemper twice, hoping it would be the solution. Couldn't get my ears to buy it (though I know it's capable of great stuff), even with great profiles like M Britt's.
My solution was I built an ISO cab and some extra 1x12 speaker cabs to put in it. I leave the amps out in the room with me and have them running the extra cab in the ISO box. I can monitor just the recorded signal. It's been really great. With enough rockwool, I'm getting really good results.
But if this Ox thing delivered, it would be fantastic. And I wouldn't be trying to sell my ears on modeled overdrive.
Also, I usually yawn at built in effects, but these sound really nice. What do you think the odds are that UA spent resources re-doing reverb, delay and EQ algos that they already have? I'd put them close to zero. I bet these effects are just UAD algos. The plate reverb sounds lovely, just like their EMT140.
I may have to order one up and compare it to what I'm getting from the ISO cab paradigm.

Oh interesting. I have that '68 DR RI (not the Rivera mods of course) and I love it.

The ox looks great, just relatively expensive ? It must have on board uad duo or quad ? Very certain stock UA plug ins.

I played it at NAMM...pretty damn cool. Played it through a Fender head and while it was kind've bright, I attributed that to the settings on the amp...But, ragan it's similar results as the Kemper. I would think what you're missing with the Kemper is the amp-in-the-room feel and this won't give you that either. Ever try the powered Kemper?

I hardly ever play an amp in the room with me. It’s always mic’d in the ISO cab and I’m listening through the monitors. With the Kemper, i just always heard it as a little flat. After listening to a lot of Ox clips last night I went and listened to the M Britt Vintage Pack clips and thought I could immediately hear the thing I didn’t love about the Kemper. Since the Ox uses an actual amp for the amp tone and just models the speaker and mics, maybe that’s why I’m hearing it as better? Hard to say without using one. FWIW, I have played the powered Kemper and liked that even less but that was with stock profiles so I don’t put much faith in that experience.

in the videos, its obviously running ua plugs, so a uad card has got to be inside and then the price point makes a little more sense ?

Great to have you here, Drew. First question. The Ox needs an iPad to run the app, correct? Does that iPad need to have the latest iOS? I ask because Apple, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that my, like, 24 month old iPad is no longer worthy of being eligible for iOS's. It's friggin' brutal. I pretty much only use it (the iPad) in the studio to run Slate Batch Commander. I'm trying to figure out if I could even use the Ox without getting a new iPad (non-starter). Thanks!

Ragan, The Ox app runs on iOS and MacOS. Here are the requirements. help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000023786-OX-App-RequirementsI don't own an iPad currently, so I use it on a Mac and it's perfect. It'll even change the faders to knobs if your screen res is too low like it is on my laptop. Once setup and configured, you can use Ox without the app and use the Rig and Room knobs to control the setups you stored in the unit. Hope this helps!

I totally missed that you can just run it from Mac OS. Maybe just because all the demos have IPads running the app. Next question. Is the sound that’s coming out of the speaker of the amp (with the Ox in line) just the sound of the Ox’s attenuation (wherever that’s set) or is it the sound of mic/speaker modeling? I would assume the former.

You are correct, the former. The analog attenuation path is straight through the unit. The headphone, line, and all digital outs get the modeled sound at all times.

Dan, I highly encourage you to get an in person demo. OX is a product that needs to be "experienced" to be fully appreciated. For example, the first time I played through it, I was instantly struck by how good not only the sound of the cabs/mics, but the quality of the D/A converter and headphone amp. With headphones, it's your amp and your sound, in an immersive, intimate way. Everyone I've ever shown it to, loves it.

Sorry johneppstein, I don't have anything to announce about a Windows version of the app. I am totally dumbfounded by companies that are so stupid that they would eliminate over half of their potential customers. It's not like UA is a little one man operation that can't afford to do it. Don't apologize to me, apologize to your stockholders.

Ordered the Ox. I'll have some time over spring break to check it out and compare it to what I'm getting with my ISO cab situation.
If it delivers the goods, it's the Promised Land. If it doesn't, it goes back.
Excited to check it out.
