Anybody used this thing? Is it any good? Do you feel having the physical knobs makes a big difference in terms of ease of dialing in sounds? For that price, it seems like a no-brainer, but I could also see myself using it once and then having it sit on a shelf forever. Haha Isn’t that only the plug in, another $120 for controller ?

We’re planning on doing another 500 series sale for Black Friday. My pal Harold LaRue turned me on to your stuff. Will be watching.

It'd be a cool desk ornament for $30, but I don't like getting spam called for the rest of eternity so I avoid Sweatwater like the plague.

Nope, it's the whole she-bang-bang. Caution Mac users, no Silicon support. Uli's slave city in Shenjing Province doesn't include coders.

The plugin is free, to activate it you have to connect the controller, once every 60 days will keep it authorized. There aren't any knobs, just the 2290 style up/down arrows, don't really make any difference for ease of use. I like the dedicated meters though. It's basically one algo from the TC Reverb 4000, Rev-4. I like it on snare, woody room stuff.

I assume it throws up a license required window until it sees the controller connected to the USB bus again. I have the Master X HD-DT one as well, which actually comes with two iLok authorizations for when you don't have the controller. I think there have been a couple attempts to refine the licensing on these things after the initial 'always have the controller connected' scheme failed miserably.

Sounds way too complimicated ! It’s not. ILok serial is provided. That’s all there is to it.

Reporting back on the SSL UV 500 EQ for anyone with their finger still on the trigger.... I've had it slotted up for an hour and have been monkeying about. The short of it is "really, really good". Sounds closer to the SuperAnalogue / 9000-J character to me - that is to say very neutral, transparent, open and detailed. The two mid-bands really have a tremendous amount of flexibility. I wish the HF had one click more counter-clockwise, as 8k is just out of reach to be my high shelf for electric guitars. But my Link Audio brown EQ clones are so dialed in for that chore anyways, so no big. I LOVE it on drum bus, I've got it going before a Heritage Successor and you can really bring out a lot of shimmer in the high end without it being brittle or hazy.
Just for grins I ate up both channels just to try it on a bass DI as well as snare drum. Yes, it definitely does that.
For $499, this is pure 'no-brainer' territory. Every bit the SSL workhorse. You can really dial in LFE with precise detail without things around it getting tubby. Mids have surgical precision. And in these days of stems and subgroups, I love stereo 500 EQ units. If you're on the fence, you could spend the money a lot worse.

Received my pair of the $49 ribbons. (Alas, the price is no longer $49. $99 now.). They came well packed, good quality amenities - case, shock, foam, etc., and sound very good. No "issues" with either. Ribbons seem well adjusted without pulling them apart to check. They sound very similar, and are built very well and solid. Dark, but not super vintage dark. Will have more thoughts as I get to use them, but overall certainly worth the $$ whether it be $49 or $99. How’s the noise? Normal for ribbon? Got my pair as well: pretty lovely tone on flutes: but this afternoon, going to compare the noise floor w/ my 4038s.

QUBE AUDIO is offering a discount on their Mobi One Cubase controller if you subscribe to the newsletter. ($350 US) If I didn't have the Steinberg controller I'd jump on this for the transport controls alone. And according to their site it is adaptable to 3rd party plugins. I tried to attach a photo but RGO is not letting me do that these days because it says the "forum has exceeded it's limit."

Got my MP ribbons yesterday. Build quality and accessories seem good. Haven’t tracked anything with them yet, hopefully tonight.

Yeah, they’re sturdy. The noise is similar in level to my 4038, but is broader in spectrum, reaches higher. Coles perceptibly darker. But similar on tone, crispy transients on flutes. Not bad at all: will need to run a session to see if they’re cool for a room pair.

I already liked my Apex 205 ribbons better on Piano than Coles. I think they were $90 or thereabouts. I did have Lundahl transformers put in and new ribbons though. Ribbon mics are not rocket science. Well...most of them anyway. 77DX's are 1940's science. LOL

Front End has up to 20% discounts right now. I picked up an HCL comp this week and and am seriously fighting the urge to grab one of their 2 channel tube pres as well, they are 15% off.
